2018 Serra Reunion!

Apparently it took Maria 11 years to forget how much work it is to host a reunion, so she's going to do it again!
May 5, 2018 is the official date. There are afew new pictures from the old days, including some Serra pages from the Yearbook--usethe link above to jump to them.

2006 Serra Reunion

We did it! Serra alums converged on Maria Matsumoto's Woodside, CA home on July 22, 2006.Below is the rundown as written up by Rick Lutkin.

Here's a recap of the weekend:

Friday night at the Goose

The weekend began with about 20 folks gathering on the back patio of the Goosefor a few beers and burgers. We were all able to recognize each other withoutnametags which with our collectively deteriorating eyesight was quite anaccomplishment in itself. Those who traveled farthest for the beer includedCraig Blaha ’82 from Germany, Brian Fouty ’83 from Alabama, CarrieKatayama Somberg ’82 from New Jersey and Al Mitchell ’81 from Alaska. Wedid find out that even though Al and Brian live in Alaska and Alabama thatthey have the same barber, what are the chances of that. Remarkably enougheveryone looked almost exactly like we did in Serra house!!!!! Afterfortifying ourselves with beer and burgers many of us were looking forward toreliving our youth in the Saturday morning Ultimate game.

Sat morning Ultimate

About 10 Ultimate players arrived at Roble field around 10:30, amazinglyenough no one was all that hung over the session at the Goose but it was HOT.After Brian Fouty ’83 reminded us about the rules of the game we playedworld class Ultimate (well world class for a bunch of mid-40 somethings). DidI mention it was really HOT. We had a late addition to the game (John Tang’82) which was a good thing but don't you just hate fresh legs showing uppart way through an Ultimate game, especially when they join the other team;^). We did see Bob Blackstock ’82 get totally horizontal (on purpose) twicewhich amazed most of us, hopefully he was walking OK the next morning. JimHereford ’82 must have some secret formula for running in the heat as he waslike the Energizer Bunny and just kept going and going. We did meet theprimary goals of the game, everyone survived and having some fun. Did Imention it was extremely HOT. After the game we retired to a local burritoplace to eat and lie about how well we had played compared to the old days.

Sat afternoon and evening

We all arrived at Maria Matsumoto's lovely house which was soon invaded byabout 60 alums, spouses and kids. There was limited “Gatoring” which wasa little less vigorous than 26 years ago (which is a good thing for allconcerned). At least one of the “kids”, Tom O’Neil’s ‘82 daughter,will be attending Stanford this fall, she thought living in Serra would be funbased on our group, we coached her that there were probably better livingoptions available now, but certainly no better people.

It was great to see so many 'old' friends, some of whom I have not seen in 26years. Its really hard to believe that its been that long since we all livedin Serra. I hope we can all do a better job of keeping in touch and buildingon the reconnections Maria and Marcus enabled for all of us this weekend.
