I have been a member since January, and it occurs to me that I never hear it mentioned here. It is such an incredible resource at such a reasonable ($25 annually) fee that I thought I'd mention it.
The membership in TKGA includes quarterly issues of Cast On Magazine (members also have access to the archive of past issues). Each of the approximately 60+ page issues contains several excellently written patterns, very informative technical articles on knitting, explanations and links to resources for special techniques, a book review, and reviews of the yarns used in the various patterns. The number of patterns available alone more than pays for the membership.
I just recently heard about the Master Hand Knitting Program offered by The Knitting Guild Association and decided to try to accomplish that.
TKGA also offers a variety of classes (for fees), some of which can lead to a certification in Master Hand Knitting.
I am still working my way through the Cast On archive, so I haven't taken advantage of all membership has to offer, but it has been so interesting and informative so far that I thought I would share if anyone out there is interested.

The Knitting Guild Association is the largest knitting association in the United States. The Knitting Guild Association (TKGA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to knitting and knitters. It supports serious knitters in their efforts to learn the history, perpetuate the traditional techniques, and keep the artisan aspect and high quality standards of the craft alive. It has over 5,000 members in the United States and abroad, and is dedicated to promoting knitting and knitting education. It was founded in 1984.
TKGA publishes Cast On magazine quarterly. According to the TKGA, Cast On is 'the Educational Journal for Knitters' and is filled with valuable lessons and patterns for all levels of knitting. Members can take TKGA correspondence courses by mail. Members also have access to articles and free patterns in a members-only area of the TKGA website.
Members can enroll in the Master Hand Knitting Program, an extensive three-level program.[1] Each level includes over 18 to 20 swatches to be knit, questions to answer, patterns to write, book and magazine reviews, and papers to research and write.[2] The culminating tasks are the design and knitting of a hat and a sweater, of which one has to be in the Fair Isle style and the other Aran. As of December 2016, there are more than 300 Master Knitters worldwide.[3]
